Guests enjoyed a very informative talk by Fabienne Favray of TBS at our June Connect Seminar.

MICTA Member, Fabienne guided the audience through the many pitfalls facing our personal and company data.

The talk explained how:

• An SSL Certificate can protect the data that’s transferred to and from your site by encrypting it so hackers can’t read it.

• A Code Signing Certificate for developers keeps the software you write from being tampered with or flat-out stolen.

• How DNS (Domain Name Servers) protects your site, and improves its performance and reliability by giving you more control over your site’s DNS

• User certificates encrypt emails for more privacy and add a legal value.

• How to enhance your Website Security to automatically scan your site to find and remove malware that can hurt your customers and your business.

Fabienne will return later in the year to present an in-depth seminar about the creation of SSL certificates.

Our first Midweek MICTA event was held on Wednesday 15th April and featured TED Podcasts from David Eagleman and Joseph DeSimone.

Many members and guests enjoyed David Eagleman’s talk “Can we create new senses for humans”.  His research into our brain processes has led him to create new interfaces to take in previously unseen information about the world around us.  This technology stirred the imagination of the attendees and lead to a debate with many other applications for the technology being discussed.

Our second Podcast by Joseph DeSimone “What if 3D Printing was 100x Faster”, asked the question what we think of as 3D printing?  He unveiled a bold new technique - inspired by Terminator 2 - that’s 25 to 100 times faster, and creates smooth, strong parts.  The Midweek MICTA attendees were then given the opportunity to test out the Code Club’s new 3D printer.
